Olvera Street, Downtown LA

Olvera Street, Downtown LA

Transportation: On July 30, I went to Olvera Street in LA. To avoid traffic I decided to take the Metro train and stop at  Union Station. When I arrived all I had to do was walk across maybe two streets and I was there. The station is very close to Olvera Street, so I recommend taking the train to escape traffic and for convenience.

Activities: When you arrive there are SO many vendors and little shops. Everything is culturally inspired by Mexico including the food, items to buy, and atmosphere. Vendors sell jewelry, handbags, backpacks, hats, clothes, guitars, religious items, and much more.  Near the vendors, there are old historic buildings to check out and many photo opportunities. Sometimes street performers show off around the area as well which can be quite entertaining. Between the vendors and shops are many restaurants that provide delicious Mexican dishes.

Food: The restaurant I tried at Olvera Street was called El Paseo Inn. Our waitress was super nice and always waited on us with a smile. If you check in on yelp they will give you free guacamole. Who can resist that?! I checked in and they accepted. One minute later our waitress came back with a table of ingredients. She made the guacamole right in front of us and asked us our preferences as she mixed different spices together. It was the best guacamole I have ever tasted! While I was there, I also had a carne asada quesidilla and it was amazing. My brother ordered thier special burrito and he said it was the best burrito in the world. I highly reccomend this restaurant if you get a chance to visit.

My Adventure Rating: I loved taking this day trip. I got to spend time with family, take nice pictures, and eat amazing food. Also, the transportaion was simple and inexpensive. My rating is 8.5 out of 10.
